Christian Horner was well aware of the ruthlessness in F1 from the beginning of his time at Red Bull. The announcement of his release from operational duties on Wednesday was perhaps not as surprising to him as it may have seemed. As detailed in the book “Growing Wings: The Inside Story of Red Bull Racing,” there were tensions between the Milton Keynes factory and Red Bull HQ even during the early days after Red Bull took over. Tony Purnell, the team’s original principal, recounted disagreements over personnel and car-building strategies with Red Bull management. Despite his unexpected departure, Horner leaves behind a legacy of 124 race wins during his time as team principal, marking a significant impact on Red Bull Racing’s history. His contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2030, and just last week he had invited media for an interview before a fundraising event for the charity Wings for Life.
